MBBS happens to be a degree presented on graduation to the medical students. Medicine along with surgery use to offer MBBS as the first two professional degrees. The MBBS translates to sarjana muda perubatan dan pembedahan, Bachelor of Surgery in English.
By default, they are two separate degrees. However, they are usually awarded as a single degree. While in practice, they are also considered a qualification. Countries that follow the United Kingdom tradition award this degree. However, the United States and countries that follow its pattern do not use MBBS.
These countries award a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) as the equivalent of an MBBS.
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery.
In many countries, an MBBS degree happens to be awarded after a five- or six -year undergraduate course. A large number of universities that offer medical degrees provide master’s courses that last for six years. In some cases, graduates of other disciplines may take a special graduate admission medical course. This course is for a reduced period of time. Relevant study skills acquired during the first degree contribute to the reduction in time. In some cases, first -year basic science courses (for six -year degrees) have been eliminated. Physics, chemistry, and biology are no longer needed. School examinations must meet those standards before admission. However, in most countries, freshly graduated Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery students has to spend a specified period of time in Internship.. Practitioners register at their own organizational bodies. It is usually in the living / working area.
How does the Medicine course work?
The university course in Medicine is a bachelor’s degree, with an average duration of 6 years and is offered in person and full-time.
The undergraduate course in Medicine is quite complex and encompasses some specific phases. We separated the 6 years of study into the 3 cycles, for a better understanding of these steps:
Basic Cycle (1st and 2nd)
This first stage is called the basic cycle and comprises the basic subjects for the student. In this case, more introductory courses are seen, such as Introduction to the Study of Medicine, General Skills, Medical Skills, and Biological Functions.
In these first two years of the course, the theoretical subjects will form the theoretical repertoire of the student, who will not yet have direct contact with patients. However, the student will already carry out several practical activities in specialized laboratories.
Clinical Cycle (3rd and 4th)
After the Basic Cycle, the Clinical Cycle begins. In these 2 years, the student will have subjects focused on Clinical Medicine, with practical classes involving patient care.
The study of the Birth, Growth, Development, Conception and Formation of the Human Being begins, in addition to the Interdisciplinary Practices of Teaching, Services and Community Interaction, which can be carried out at the Medical Specialties Center where students work under the supervision of teachers.
Boarding School (5th and 6th)
Finally, there is the internship, which covers the last 2 years of Supervised Internship – Mandatory Rotational Internship. Each faculty has a division of time regarding specialties. At online, you can attend a period of emergencies, another in the rural internship (accompanying the doctor at the health post) and the last two periods in a hospital, getting to know all the medical specialties more closely.
